The majority of our year 2 children transition into year 3 at our federated school; Halfway Junior School.
Due to our close working relationship, children at Halfway Nursery Infant School, have lots of opportunities during their time with us to support their transition to Halfway Junior School.
During their time here they will naturally get used to staff that work across both sites, as well as have many opportunity to join in with events with children from the Junior school, such as:
- shared choir experiences
- shared sporting events
- visits to the Junior school to join in with events
Formal transition
The start of the transition process begins in November when children are in year 2, with a school open evening, where year 2 families are invited to come and look around the school.
Once you have applied for and been allocated a school place at Halfway Junior School, the school we will be in touch to support the transition into school for you and your child, to help make this process as smooth as possible.
- In the second half term of summer, you will be invited to attend a parent's meeting, which will give you a chance to meet key staff, including the senior leadership team and SENCO. This meeting will also explain what to expect when your child joins the Junior school and what you need to do to be ready for this. At this meeting we also discuss aspects such as uniform, lunches and communication.
- In June/July, children will then receive receive a letter telling them what class they will be in and who their teacher will be. This letter will also contain a welcome message from their new teacher, including a picture of them.
- During July, year 3 teachers and teaching assistants will visit the children in year 2 to start to get to know them and their families.
- During July, year 2 children will spend the morning at the Junior school with their current year 2 teachers. This visit gives the children a chance to get to know the building and new staff. They will also have a picnic and playtime with the current year 3 children.
- In July, children will spend a full transition day at the Junior school. On this day, they will be dropped off and collected from the Junior school by their families. During this day, the children will find out which House Team they will be in!
We know that all children and families are different and so if your child needs additional support for their transition, we will work with you to create an individualised plan.
