As children move into year 1 they move out of the EYFS and into Key Stage 1. The school day stays the same as it was in Foundation Stage 2 (8:40am - 3:10pm) but the content of the school curriculum changes to reflect the Statutory National Curriculum for Key Stage 1.
During the school day, children in year 1 and year 2 will take part in daily phonic sessions, writing and maths lessons. Throughout the week, they will cover a wide breadth of subjects including: reading (3 times per week in a small group), science, PE (2 hours a week), history, geography, RE, computing, music, RSHE, D&T and art.
Below is an example of a typical daily timetable for a child in year 1 and year 2.

Children are greeted by their teacher and are welcomed into their classroom. They settle into morning work with their classmates. |

Register Children sit on the carpet to say good morning to their classmates and teachers. They also choose their lunch: we put photographs of their meal options on the board to help them decide. |

Phonics Lesson The class have their daily phonics lesson where children learn early reading skills and practise letter formation and writing. |

English Lesson Children join in with whole class lessons focusing on key aspects of the writing curriculum. |
10.20am |
Assembly Children join in with a key stage assmebly in the hall four times a week and a class assembly once a week. Assemblies are planned to develop children's personal development and cover: golden rules, singing, current local or national issues, and religious celebrations. Friday is our celebration assembly. |

Snack time Children have a piece of fresh fruit or a vegetable for snack (provided by school) along with water or milk. |

Story time Children sit together with their teacher or teaching assistant to enjoy a wide variety of stories and poetry. ‘Star of the Day’ is also awarded to a child who has achieved something special that day, closing the day with a celebration of their achievements. |
